Why I choose Wix
You may have heard that WordPress powers over 25% of the world’s web pages. That’s a lot, and for a good reason. It is powerful, completely customisable, and there are literally thousands of plugins available to allow your site to do almost anything you can think of.
So why don’t I use it?
Well, honestly, it confused me when I started. I wanted to build a website and was very used to desktop publishing applications such as Microsoft Publisher or Corel Draw, where you can drag, drop resize, rotate and crop, right there in the app, with such ease. Trying to do something similar in Word for example, seems clunky and unintuitive.
That’s how I felt personally about using WordPress. Even with several easy to use page builders I still couldn’t make it do what I wanted, easily. I thought, if this frustrates me, and I have a keen interest in computers, then how is it going to work if someone who doesn’t know anything about computers, wants to update their details, their products for sale, etc.
I really enjoy designing, and I’m definitely not claiming to be a developer, so although I tried to learn code, I hated it.
So, I turned to Wix. It was like a breath of fresh air. So easy and intuitive and allowed me to get the look I wanted in minutes. I have now built several sites using the Wix platform, and never have I had a disappointed client. It allows me to build a website in days, not weeks, and being able to produce quality designs in a shorter timeframe allows for savings to be passed on to clients. Cost should absolutely not be the deciding factor in website building, but as a small business owner myself, I know it is one of many.
I pride myself on being able to train my clients to use their website and really be part of the design process.
No longer are you needing to pay someone to make small changes, you can do them yourself! However, if you just want to focus on running your business, then I’m only a call away.
Of course, there are going to be designers and developers who claim they wouldn’t touch Wix in a million years, and that’s OK, it’s like Apple vs Android, Ford vs Holden, Windows vs Mac. Everyone is going to have differing opinions.
A few years ago the differences were clearer. Wix struggled with its SEO (Search engine optimisation) and its customisation. Fast forward to 2019 and Wix has really listened to its users and designers. It has its own powerful SEO wizard that makes getting found on Google and other sites a breeze, and has recently added Wix Code, allowing for an incredible amount of customisation.
